Description
Jean Hippolyte Louël Oscar couldn’t have imagined in 1992 that, more than 15 years after writing his Clarinet Concerto, a CD would be compiled containing three other Clarinet Concertos written by only Flemish composers. The 4 concertos, all created between 1990 and 1999, demonstrate the typical style of the 4 composers: Brossé’s piece is melodic and narrative; Louël’s is colorful and impressionistic; the dodecaphonic, but always melodic music is typical for Verbesselt and finally there is the narrative and colorful style of Jan Van der Roost. The pieces are bound together by the exquisite warm, sonorous clarinet performance of Eddy Vanoosthuyse. Driven as he is, he compiled a wonderful program and recorded it, showing high technical and musical qualities. Once again Eddy Vanoosthuyse makes us feel that the clarinet is an instrument with many shades and features. Coupling his talent with these four compositions, this CD truly is “From Belgium with Love.”
