Spirale Piano Trio

Founded in 2002 by the Russian-Cuban cellist, Makcim Fernandez Samodaiev, the Romanian pianist, Monica Florescu and the Mexican violinist, Pedro Pozos Melo, Spirale Piano Trio has proved to be one of the most known high-standard chamber music groups in Belgium. The members of this ensemble, each at their time a musically gifted child, have obtained individually a broad roll of honor in many countries around the world. They decided to master their musical talents by pursuing their studies in Belgium, where they met and found themselves, as in a predestinate fate, driving together on the same stream. The trio, talented and passionately driven, creates a virtuosity that converges in a round and utmost subtle balance, a view of a combined action led by a stunning consequence. The ensemble has performed in big halls like the Center of Fine Arts and Flagey in Brussels, the Bijloke in Ghent, the National Center of Arts (CNA) in Mexico City, the State Theater of Villahermosa and Veracruz. Spirale Piano Trio, collaborates with guest musicians as well, and widens its repertoire of known masterpieces regularly with works of contemporary composers like Jan Van Der Roost, Patrick De Clerck, Alexandre Rabinovitch and Gyulai Gaal Janos. The ensemble is laureate of various festivals in Belgium, such as the Philippe Herreweghe Festival 2004, where they were awarded the title of “Young Talent”, the Steinway Festival 2005 in Ghent, and had the opportunity to interact with great artists like Thomas Kakusha, Alexandre Rabinovitch.

Projekt Choir OPUS

The Opus Project Choir Foundation consists of five enthusiastic music-loving board members who have the goal of “yearly performing unique, never before performed music, when possible in the presence of the composer, where the music is combined with another art form.” They search out a fitting accompaniment ensemble, soloists, choir and artist for each project. The foundation was formed to implement a desire to present challenging and exciting concerts which add something new to the existing concert life.

Valerius Ensemble

The Valerius ensemble was founded in 1988 and is the only professional chamber music ensemble in the province Overijsel in The Netherlands. Depending on the program, they perform with various casts and the number of musicians varies from two to ten or even more. Most of the musicians are members of The Netherlands Symphony Orchestra.

With its annual series of chamber music concerts on Sunday afternoons, the ensemble plays a significant role in the programming at the Music Centre in Enschede and also in the Rabotheater in Hengelo (in The Netherlands). Ever since these concerts began both public and press have reacted with great enthusiasm and the halls are often filled to capacity.

The Valerius ensemble has received invitations to perform throughout The Netherlands and is also living up to its growing reputation via radio, television and c.d. recordings. Internationally, the ensemble has given concerts in Germany and Spain and has toured Brazil extensively. Over the years, the Valerius ensemble has played with a large number of national and international solists. Jaap van Zweden, Miranda van Kralingen, Wenzel Fuchs, Jacques Zoon, Norman Krieger, Emmy Verhey, Ronald Brautigam, Jacob Slagter and many others have appeared with the ensemble.

Besides performing chamber music, the Valerius ensemble is also regularly involved in Music Theatre productions. For instance, Maestro Gabriele Bellini conducted a series of performances of Stravinsky’s “Soldiers Tale”. Together with the Dutch cabaret artist Herman Finkers, the ensemble created an innovative version of Saint-Saëns’ “Carnival of the Animals” , which has been broadcast several times on Dutch telivision.

In a co-production with Sonnevanck, a youth-oriented theatre company, there have been a number of performances of “The Nightingale”, a work which is based upon the Andersen’s fairy tale set to the music of Theo Loevendi, one of the important composers in the Netherlands. The ensemble also shows an avid interest in contemporary music. Various composers have written works especially for the Valerius ensemble such as Carlos Míchans (2x), Alexander Comitas, Leo Samama en Wim Beunders , all from the Netherlands; Dimas Sedícias from Brazil, Icelandic composer Daniel Bjarnason and Raimundo Penaforte from the USA. With the so-called ‘Join-in’ and school concerts, the VE brings classical music close to the youth in a relaxed and yet educational manner.

Vocal Ensemble Cantatrix

Started in 1992 as a band of twelve friends, selected and conducted by Eeuwe Zijlstra, Cantatrix has in its fifteen year history grown into a mature chamber choir, professionally performing in various concert series every year. In all those years the typical sound of the choir has remained unchanged. The secret of the choir: the combination of high level individual singing qualities with the team spirit and chemistry of the group. This transforms the choir into something special, making every Cantatrix concert an inspired listening experience.

In 2000 Cantatrix was asked to take the place of an English choir in Ripon Cathedral. This trip was a great success and the choir has been travelling ever since. In 2001 Cantatrix sang concerts in the German town of Laage. In 2004 the choir was selected to take part in an international competition in Arezzo in Italy, where the singers took third prize in the ‘straordinario’ category. In the same year, Cantatrix performed in Fulda (Germany) and Crediton (England). In 2005 the ensemble was again selected to participate in the Arezzo festival and this time managed to capture the first prize in the ‘straordinario’ category. In 2007 Cantatrix was asked to sing in the ‘Florilège vocal’ in the French city of Tours, where it won first prize in the ‘renaissance’ category. The year 2008 saw Cantatrix performing in the successful Frisian Requiem ‘Opus Exit’.
