Description
In 1645 Gasparo Zanetti, a Milanese musician about whom very little is known, published a violin tutor which was also a collection of popular dance music: Il Scolaro per imparar a suonare di violini. The music on this recording comes from Zanetti’s book and also includes arrangements by his contemporaries.
Since its creation in 1996 by Jonathan Talbott and Tormod Dalen, Braccio has won wide critical acclaim for its performances and recordings. Praised for its “fresh and lively music making” the ensemble is at its core a string quartet with a mission to resurrect the ravishing and passionate music of 16th and 17th century violin consorts.
